ROOT CANAL THERAPY IN LARAMIE

WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL?

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage in the pulp (the soft tissue inside your tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels). When a tooth becomes severely decayed, cracked, or infected, the pulp can become inflamed or die, causing pain and potential tooth loss. A root canal removes the infected tissue, disinfects the area, and seals the tooth—relieving discomfort and saving your natural tooth.

Despite its reputation, modern root canal treatment is typically no more uncomfortable than getting a filling, thanks to advanced techniques and local anesthesia.

THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE

Root canal therapy is typically completed in one to two visits:

  1. Examination & X-rays
Your dentist examines the tooth and takes X-rays to assess the extent of damage or infection.
  2. Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is used to numb the area, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure.
  3. Cleaning the Canal
A small opening is made in the tooth to access the pulp. The infected or damaged tissue is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and shaped.
  4. Filling & Sealing
The cleaned canal is filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha and sealed to prevent future infection.
  5. Restoration
After the root canal, a crown or filling is placed to restore the tooth’s strength and function.
